Meatless Meals #2 – The Smoothie Bowl Edition

A few years have passed since I try to avoid animal related products as much as possible. Why? Before then, I simply wasn’t aware of the effect that our food choice has on our planet. Here’s a recent article that implies it again. For me, it was an easy choice to eat alternative meals and so, help to reduce this impact. My ‘Meatless-Meals-posts‘ contain easy recipes and hopefully, they inspire you to prepare a meal with less impact. Okay,  less talking, more eating!

Drumrolls please, now introducing: the Smoothie Bowl Edition!

I have to admit. For some time a have been obsessing about smoothie bowls. They are just so easy to make! And besides that, the bowls can simply be decorated as if it’s an art object. One tip before diving deeper into this article: slice and freeze some bananas! At home, I keep a few frozen sliced bananas in my freezer and they make the perfect base for smoothie bowls.

Equipment needed

A freezer, a sharp and large knife, a chopping board, a powerful blender and a bowl to serve the dish in.

Here’s how to prepare a smoothie bowl:

(These recipes will take approximately 10 minutes of your time, depending on your cutting skills)

  1. Cut all the fruits or vegetables into small pieces
  2. Get the sliced bananas out of the freezer 🙂
  3. Blend all the ingredients into a smooth, ice-like substation
  4. If the mixture is too watery? Add some more frozen fruit. Is the mixture too thick? Add some a pinch of water or (plant-based) milk.
  5. Pour the mix into a bowl
  6. Decorate however you like!

Ready to blend?

Please remember that you can use any fruit or even vegetable you prefer. Also decorating can be done by choice: granola, oats, seeds, coconut shreds or nuts. Use something you have in-house and get creative. By varying you’ll end up with a tasty masterpiece in no time! Here are some of my creations:
